This is for Gramps!

This is my Grandma Marian and Grandpa Chet about 6 years ago, about 2 years before Gramps died. Gramps was my hero and always supported me in whatever I chose to do. He was always stoked to hear about my travels and he longed to travel the world as well.

There isn't a day I prepare for this upcoming TransAmerica bike adventure that I don't think of him and how he influenced me so greatly. I dedicate this trip to my kick-ass Grandpa Chet...

Now it's official...

With excitement, fear, wonder, apprehension, and a myriad of other emotions, today my trans-America bike trip became a reality when I purchased my train/bus tickets from Portland, OR to Williamsburg, VA. The itinerary is as follows:

May 4, 12:15 pm... Portland to Seattle (Amtrak train)
May 4, 4:40 pm...   Seattle to Chicago (Amtrak train)
May 6, 6:40 pm...   Chicago to Washington D.C. (Amtrak)

May 7, 9:15 pm...   Washington D.C. to Williamsburg, VA (Greyhound bus)
May 8, 12:55 am... arrive in Williamsburg, VA

Plan: Get a hotel, first thing. Sleep for whatever hours needed. Then assemble the bike, ride the 15 miles to Yorktown, VA, dunk my back wheel in the Atlantic, start pedaling west, and hope for the best.........

Love to all,
D
